Underfloor Heating in UK Luxury Development

UK Property developers are planning to create a unique subterranean house for the super-wealthy, complete with sophisticated underfloor heating. 

When it comes to property, developers are always trying to out-luxury each other. Every new apartment now seems to boast the ‘luxury’ tag in their specifications, complete with underfloor heating. But with these kinds of luxuries available to everyone, UK developers are really pulling out all the stops to be the best. Huntsmere developers have been given the go-ahead to build a £2m, two-storey underground house – with just the front door at ground level. 

Underground, Underfloor Heating 

Building property underground has a certain allure, suggesting a certain cosiness and security you couldn’t achieve with over-ground property. And to make the property completely snug, it will feature an extensive underfloor heating system. The property is planned for an area in Cheshire to target the footballer’s wives set, where Premiership players have already taken over most of the luxury accommodation. The idea to build underground came about after the developers were refused permission to build a large country house. 

The Ultimate Subterranean Mansion 

The underground house offers the ultimate in privacy too – it will be hidden in the landscaped gardens of a Victorian building in Altrincham. As such, the house will be of premium interest to celebrities. The development doesn’t come without objections as some locals feel the felling of trees will damage the area. The area isn’t new to objections around property development as many of the old traditional homes have been converted into luxury flats complete with underfloor heating. 

Underfloor Heating and Heat Exchange Technology 

But there’s no doubt that the underground mansion, dubbed ‘the earth house’ sounds stunning. A spiral staircase will lead down into the main hallway and a living room – natural light will flood through from a ‘light dome’ behind the front door. The mansion will feature several underground levels boasting a gym, Jacuzzi and swimming pool. It will be the first completely subterranean house the UK developers have built. But despite all the luxury, the developers insist it will be more eco friendly than a traditional mansion – being underground will insure it is well insulated and the mansion will be heated by an underfloor heating system with hot water from a ground source heat pump. The pump will use heat exchange technology to capture the heat in the ground in order to heat the house.
