Underfloor Heating is Good For You!

Installing underfloor heating can bring health benefits.

Whilst for many of us in the UK, underfloor heating is a relative newcomer to our homes and offices, it has been in use for many years in other parts of the world – particularly Scandinavia, where economic and reliable approaches to heating buildings is a vital part of everyday life. Underfloor heating could reduce your bills and it could free up wall space from cumbersome radiators, but it can also bring health advantages.

Underfloor Heating and Your Health

The manufacturers and installers of underfloor heating systems don’t make outrageous and un-provable claims about its health benefits, but there’s no doubt that some people believe that having a heated floor can make a difference to people who suffer from certain conditions. One of these is arthritis, and related joint problems, which suffers find are exaggerated by cold floors. If you already have sore, aching joints, the last thing you want to do is step barefoot on to a cold floor. Unfortunately, particularly in the bathroom, cold tiled or lino floors are a fact of life. Fitting underfloor heating means that you step out onto a warm surface, giving your joints the relief they need.

Underfloor Heating Helps Hygiene

Good hygiene is essential for those people who suffer with breathing problems, such as asthma. Breathing difficulties are often associated with allergens found in the home, such as dust mites and general airborne particles. The spread of these particles is often exacerbated by your central heating system, which moves the air around. Underfloor heating has been found to reduce the amount of air that moves around your home, thereby reducing the dust that can cause breathing to tighten. Increased hygiene around the home also means that it takes less time to clean and that your home in general is a healthier place to be.

No Burns from Underfloor Heating

One of the biggest problems with radiators is how hot they can get. If your system is very efficient and you don’t have thermostatic valves fitted to your radiators, they can get incredibly hot. This means that it’s easier than you think for burns to occur – especially when young children are around. Underfloor heating works at a much lower temperature, whilst still heating your room effectively – removing the worry about burns and scalds that radiators can bring.
