We always provide full installation instructions with each system we design, and you or your contractor should follow these tailored guidelines when fitting the underfloor heating. This article is designed to give you a basic idea of what to expect: 

• Design – make sure that you have paid attention to the design for your underfloor heating. Whether you’re using electric cabling or water piping, you need to ensure that you have the right capacity to heat your floor and your room properly. You can do this by talking to our expert designers, who will help you to get things right first time. 

• Preparation – as with most jobs, preparation is vital to the success of your underfloor heating installation. Make sure you know in advance what steps need to be taken so that you don’t get any nasty surprises when the installation begins. Your floor surface should be absolutely flat to ensure the even distribution of heat around the system – particularly when a wet system is being used. In addition, insulation will need to be fitted around the edge of the floor to prevent heat seeping away. You may also need to insulate the sub-floor, so that all your heat rises up through the top layer for flooring and none is lost to the concrete or timber below. 

• Finish – once your underfloor heating system installation is complete, you must test it to ensure it is functioning correctly. Failure to do this could incur huge costs as you will have to remove your final flooring in order to sort out any problems later on. Once you or your contractors are satisfied that the heating system is working properly, you can lay the recommended screed can be laid and the flooring installed.
