FAQ'S
Building Details/Finishes
What insulation is required?
So long as you meet the Building Regulations for floor insulation (and for other areas of the house), we are happy. The type of insulation is your choice. Floor insulation thickness details for your building can usually be obtained from your architect.
How much floor height does it take up/screed thickness?
A solid floor system, standard screed, requires a minimum of 70mm above the insulation. The minimum height for Battened and Floating Systems is 50mm.
Does it work with wood floors?
Many systems with wood floors have been installed and very successfully too. The timber must be kiln dried to 8-10% moisture content and the floor surface temperature should not exceed 27 ° C. Large, rapid changes in temperature should be avoided.
Are carpets OK?
There is a maximum tog rating for carpet and underlay of 1.5 tog
Are there recommended floor finish thicknesses?
Timber is OK up to 25mm; for ceramics and stone there isn't a maximum as such, but increasing thickness may reduce response times.
Installation
Do you fit the System? Can I fit it myself? Can my plumber do it?
We restrict ourselves to the design and supply of systems. The installations of floor circuits and manifolds are simple to fit and could be tackled by a practical person. Our manuals, drawings and board mounted manifold make installation easy. Connecting the manifold to the primary supply from the boiler would normally be a professional job, as would installing the controls. Any good tradesman, even if unfamiliar with underfloor heating should find it easy to fit our System and it can be helpful to use the same person who is fitting the boiler to do the job.
