Floor Finishes

A wide range of floor finishes can be successfully used with underfloor heating. Those with good conductivity of heat give the best response, however, others can still be effective and may have other benefits.

Stone & Ceramic Tiles	Excellent	The best combination with UFH
Timber, floor boards and sheet material	Good, more than adequate	Must be suitable for flooring Floor surface temperature must not exceed 27°C Must be 8-10% moisture content
Carpet with underlay	Good	Must not exceed 1.5 Tog* Underlay must be compatible with UFH
Vinyl, lino & other flexible synthetic finishes	Good	Check with manufacturers for maximum floor surface temperatures Check that adhesives are compatible with UFH
Cork Tiles	Low	Not suitable for use with UFH
Coir and sea grass matting	Low	Not suitable for use with UFH
