Essentially, any heat source that can provide us with the heat that we require for a particular system or floor type, can run the underfloor heating.
However, if a heat source such as a ground or air source heat pump is being considered, there may be a loss of efficiency and increase in running costs if you are constantly running it at its maximum operating temperature; as these are designed to run with as low a water temperature as possible. If you are looking to use a heat pump, make sure that you inform us during the design stage, so we can design the system accordingly and allow your heat pump to run as efficiently as possible, without compromising the functionality of the heating system or heat pump.
Generally, the majority of standalone boilers can be utilized to run the underfloor heating. Combinations of thermal stores with multiple heat sources including solar, heat pumps and boilers are amongst the most efficient ways of running your heating.
