Robbens Systems Underfloor Heating

Robbens Systems - Underfloor Heating

You can very successfully, use timber floors with your underfloor heating as long as the system is designed accordingly. Modern buildings have very high insulation levels, and this means very low floor temperatures are required to heat it. Renovations of older buildings, with low or nonexistent levels of insulation, will require higher floor temperatures to be able to maintain comfortable air temperatures in cold weather.

Timber floors cannot withstand too much heat before problems occur. The maximum floor temperature a real timber floor can withstand is  27̊C (70w/m2).

Wide boards should also be avoided when using underfloor heating, ideally below 150mm. Timber being a natural material will move when exposed to heat, so if you use smaller boards this expansion and contraction will be allowed to happen, and this will be less noticeable across the floor.

Finally, when your timber is sourced, you must make sure the timber is well dried. The moisture content should be around 8 – 10%. You should always discuss these details with your timber supplier to see if there are any special requirements for their products.
